How You Can Participate

Throughout Jewish history the Torah has existed as both a practical manual and a guide for the soul. Eternal Torah is a unique and moving journey to fulfill the 613th commandment, found in Deuteronomy 31:19: “So now, write this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel ... so that this song shall be for Me a witness ...

This last, and yet arguably most powerful, mitzvah (commandment) in the Torah requires every Jew to write a Torah scroll or to become a partner in its creation. While not always feasible in its original form, this sacred tradition will nonetheless be realized by Temple members as, hands placed on a quill, they share with a sofer — Torah scribe — the writing of a letter as Vassar Temple's scrolls undergo much-needed restoration.

To arrange for you and your family to participate in Eternal Torah, simply email your request for an appointment with the scribe to EternalTorah@vassartemple.org. If you missed the opportunity to help ink in a letter on April 8th or April 18th, additional opportunities will be available on Sunday September 26th as part of the Celebration of the Journey.
